Peru Digital Nomad Visa & Remote Work

➡ 2024 UPDATE

At the end of the last year, Peru introduced its digital nomad visa program, designed to attract remote workers and provide them with the chance to live and work in this wonderful South American country for up to 356 days, with options for renewing the visa thereafter.

This new program complements Peru’s range of visa options tailored to remote workers, such as the temporary visa which permits stays of up to 183 days, and various tourist visas that allow for shorter visits of 30 to 90 days. Yet, the digital nomad visa stands out as a particularly attractive option for those looking to deeply engage with Peru’s rich culture and breathtaking landscapes over a longer period.

Typical requirements for digital nomad visa applications include presenting a valid passport, evidence of accommodation, proof of sustained income, and a cover letter that explains your reasons for wanting to stay or move to Peru.

If you’re interested in applying for the digital nomad visa, start by reaching out to the nearest Peruvian embassy to set up an appointment. During this appointment, you’ll need to provide all the necessary documents. There is also an application fee, but the exact amount and other specific details might not be fully clear yet, as the visa program was only recently introduced.

Nomad Visa Peru 2024

Peru recently launched a digital nomad visa program, allowing remote workers to reside in the country for up to a year, with the possibility of extensions. This initiative targets remote employees of international companies and provides them with an opportunity to experience Peru’s diverse culture and landscapes while continuing their work. However, as of now there is not much information about the visa yet and we are waiting for updates. With this move, Peru joins other South American countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia, and Uruguay in creating visa solutions tailored for digital nomads.

US citizens, along with nationals from the European Union, Canada, and several other countries, can enter Peru without a visa for tourism purposes and can stay for up to 183 days. For stays longer than the standard tourist visa duration, digital nomads can utilize the Temporary visa, which is essentially a tourist visa. It’s important to note that working for a Peruvian company under this visa without appropriate authorization could lead to legal issues.

Tourist visas are available for different durations: 30, 60, 90, and 183 days. If you’re planning a 50-day stay, for instance, you would be issued a 60-day tourist visa. It’s crucial to understand that the duration of a tourist visa cannot be extended once granted.

Many countries have arrangements allowing their citizens to enter Peru without a visa. A complete list of these countries is available on official Peruvian government websites. Nationals from countries not on the list must apply for a tourist visa.
